The meet will have a number of scientific poster presentations, plenary lectures, guest lectures, orations and symposia. Cultural programmes meant to provide a glimpse of the folk arts and dances of this culturally rich region have been planned for each day.
The theme this year is: Pharmacists for health care. In the western countries pharmacists play a stellar role in health care delivery. They assist doctors in prescribing drugs and monitoring drug effects, both therapeutic and toxic. The technological advances the world over are having their impact on the health care scene in India as well and it is now realized that pharmacists must play a much more proactive role in health care. The role of hospital pharmacists and community pharmacists is beginning to get recognition. It is hoped that the IPC at Manipal will give a further boost to the status of pharmacy professionals in India.
IPC is an annual meeting of pharmaceutical professionals from academia and industry. Every year it is hosted by one of the five confederating bodies of Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA) --- Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Indian Hospital Pharmacists Association (IHPA), Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (IPGA), Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and All India Drug Controllers Confederation (AIDCOC).
This year IHPA plays the host and they have chosen Manipal University as the venue for the conference and Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) are the local organizers. MCOPS with its full complement of staff, supporting staff and students are making all arrangements to ensure the event is a huge success.
Pharmaceutical professionals from academia and industry, both from India and abroad, will be taking part in the conference. It is a meeting forum that helps the professionals to interact with one another and share the information on latest research on drugs, marketing trends, economy of drug development, clinical trials, pharmacy curriculum, and professional status and so on.
One attraction will be exhibition stalls put up on the sidelines of the conference by many companies under the aegis of FICCI to display their products. The Chancellor, Dr Ramdas M Pai, the Pro Chancellor, Dr H.S. Ballal and all other officials of the university are extending all help.
All arrangements relating to boarding, lodging and transport of the delegates have been taken care of. In addition to the facilities available in the University, the visitors will be put up in hotels. Many of them between Kundapur and Mangalore have been booked.
