Work begins on Blaine pharmaceutical plant

Groundbreaking was held recently for a 200,000-square-foot, $30 million pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Blaine, in northwest Washington near the Canadian border.

The plant will be operated by Viva Biopharm USA, which is a subsidiary of Viva Pharmaceutical of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

The three buildings are expected to be completed in two years and will manufacture generic drugs, over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, nutritional products and cosmetic products. Eventually, up to 300 people could work there, according to Credo Construction Inc. of Bellingham, which is building the project.
