First bench of the Gujarat High Court Tuesday issued notice to the state government, Gujarat Pollution Control Board and others in a public interest litigation alleging discharge of polluted effluent, encroachments and selling of lands to companies while violating government norms, in Ahmedabad.
The bench comprising Chief Justice SJ Mukhopadhaya and Justice JB Pardiwala was hearing the petition filed by one Navsarjan Trust, a non governmental organization.The NGO alleged that one Intas Pharmaceutical Limited has encroached upon the government’s land meant for lake and started construction for expansion of its plant.
It also claimed that one Pradip Overseas Private Limited has made encroachment upon grazing land and is discharging chemical effluent and water there. It was claimed that the company has also constructed parking area on the said land.
The petitioner trust also alleged, “On the same block of grazing land, Larson & Tubro company has also made illegal encroachment by putting up construction. Another company Omni Dye-Chem Export Private Limited has constructed an illegal road over grazing land. It also uprooted and destroyed trees without due permission of the government.”
After the primary hearing, the bench issued notices to the respondents and posted the matter for hearing on July 8.
