Pharmaceutical manufacturers for ending pending cases before devolution

Pakistani pharmaceutical manufacturers have called upon the government to finish all the pending cases relating the industry before devolution of the health ministry scheduled at June 30.

Addressing a press conference here in National Press Club on Thursday, Executive Member of Pakistan Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association M. Asad said that the health ministry has to arrange 12 registration board meetings a year as per rule but this year only three meetings were held resulting in pending of many cases relating to pharmaceutical manufacturers.

“Now when the ministry is going to be dissolved due to devolution of the subject to provinces, the authorities are requested to finish total pending cases before the devolution in the meeting scheduled on June 24,” he added.

Speaking on this occasion Pakistan Pharmaceutical Industry Association Chairman Arshad Mehmood that the local industry standard is so high that even many multinational companies prefer to give products manufacturing to them.

He said that the industry is providing jobs to more than 1.5 million educated men and women and make possible medicine availability at affordable rates.

“But when we requested authorities to have a meeting with us, neither DG Health nor any other officials met us. Only Health minister met us who only promised to resolve our issues,” he said.

Responding to a question, they said that the manufacturers are fulfilling the legal requirements as far as, production, supply, storage and other issues relating to medicines are concerned but it is the duty of the government and authorities to punish those who violate the rules
