Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy’s Centre for Pharmaceutical Professional Advancement (CPPA) focuses on-the-job training to ensure that the industry gets employable candidates. The Centre has a comprehensive offer to the graduates and post graduate students which has attracted the leading drug manufacturing, research and analytical companies to scout for industry-ready talent.
In keeping with the industry’s latest trends, CPPA has identified four areas, covering regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, good manufacturing practice and intellectual property to provide B Pharm and M Pharm graduates to be moulded as industry-ready professionals.
“The training provides in-depth understanding of the pharma, biotech and healthcare industry. The candidates are also trained on soft skills which covers business etiquette, personality development, networking and communication skills. These skills are honed by a panel of experts through guest lectures and seminars. Today’s fresh candidates require an overall exposure to be able to get adjusted to an industry environment from the day one of their professional life,” Prof. Prakash V Mallya, director, CPPA, Krupanidhi Institutions, Bangalore told Pharmabiz.
The focus of corporate training has now shifted to the corridors of pharmacy colleges only for the companies to speed up the fresh candidates efforts to immediately get adjusted to the industry environment, he added. Going by the pace of transformation in the industry, there is also a great need to counsel the candidates for a job opportunity or career development, stated Prof. Mallya.
Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy organized its 25th graduation day recently, where 62 B Pharma students and 40 M Pharm students passed out, from six branches covering pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharma technology, quality assurance, pharma analytics and medicinal chemistry. There were also 15 students for D Pharm. While the candidates from B Pharm will either look out for industry openings or go in for higher studies, the M Pharm students will go for industry jobs or teaching assignments or doctoral studies.
There is campus selection at the College where this year companies including Biocon, Medopharm and Stabicon came over to select candidates. In the case of pharmacy graduates, job opportunities would include medical –sales representatives, basic training in industry as entry level candidates. These candidates are also in demand for documentation in the clinical trials sector.
For M Pharm, job openings are bulk drug and finished formulation industry, Clinical Research Organizations and product marketing in the international and domestic arena.
In the case of D Pharm, pharmacy retail or entrepreneurship are the two opportunities. While the Drugs & Cosmetics Act mandates qualified pharmacist to be present at the distributor and chemist outlets, these candidates have a growing chance of jobs at a faster pace, said Prof. Mallya.
