Sen. Schumer continuing push to end pharmaceutical theft
Sen. Chuck Schumer was in town Monday to push his effort to fight what he says is the growing problem of prescription drug abuse.Schumer was joined at Marra's Pharmacy by local officials, including Cohoes Mayor John McDonald, whose family owns the shop, to talk about the plan he's been working on to address the growing threats of pharmacy theft and prescription drug abuse. He says the problem is just as bad as the illegal drug threat."Because they're prescription drugs, people think it's ok to take them but when they are abused and not taken under a doctor's prescription, they can be every bit as powerful, as deadly, as crime-provoking as the drugs we're familiar with - heroin, crack and cocaine," said Schumer.Schumer's plan is pushing for upgrades in monitoring of so-called doctor shopping to keep people from getting drugs they shouldn't.
