A subsidiary of the Akbar Brothers, Colombo which has repeatedly won the Presidential Award for its export performance in the tea trade – has recently achieved a milestone in the pharmaceutical industry with the manufacture of an inhaler device and a capsule beneficial to patients affected by respiratory ailments in Sri Lanka.The novel product is the brain child of Dr. Anil Goonathilaka who has also won the coveted Presidential Award for this ground breaking achievement in the country. Akbar Pharmaceutical’s LINA Research Centre and Manufacturing Facility located at Borupana Road, Ratmalana has successfully developed this inhaler device after intense research ably assisted by the University of Moratuwa.This device employs a simple mechanism to dispense a fines spray of the particles to carry the medication directly to required areas thus bringing about greater and speedy relief to the patient afflicted with respiratory ailments.After the inaugural Launching at Cinnamon Grand Hotel recently Akbar Pharmaceutical’s general manager Rohan Wettasinghe delivered the welcome speech while consultant and respiratory physician Dr. Keerthi Goonasekar delivered the keynote speech titled “ Treatment of Asthma – What next – How best”. Dr. Anil Goonathilaka and senior lecture of Moratuwa University Professor Janaka Mangala also addressed the gathering.Earlier, the Ministry of Health Maithripala Srisena declared open the LINA Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd at Ratmalana which is equipped with expensive research and testing equipment.
