Administrator, pharmaceutical company honored in Somerset County reception

BRIDGEWATER — Somerset County Administrator Dick Williams, although "not real comfortable in the spotlight," and representatives from sanofi-aventis, the township's largest employer, were honored Wednesday night for their commitment to the community and its quality of life.

"Dick, you often put aside political calculations to calculate purely for the public good," said Somerset Patriots owner Steve Kalafer, according to his prepared remarks. "You will not allow political considerations to interfere with the public interest. I have traveled many journeys through this state, working with many different county administrators and officials. Absolutely no one compares to you, the Somerset County freeholders and the entire county team."

Wednesday's event, organized by the Somerset County Business Partnership and held at the Martinsville Inn, drew more than 250 people.

Williams, honored for serving 18 years as Somerset County's administrator and overseeing more than 1,000 employees, described the county as one that "gets together when there's an issue," such as recent floods in Bound Brook.
