Strong growth in the New Jersey biomedical research industry is offsetting declines in weakening local pharmaceutical industry presence, according to a report in the New York Times.
There are currently 240 biotechnology research firms in New Jersey, up from 80 in 1998.
New Jersey was home to nearly 42,000 pharmaceutical jobs in 1990 and by 2007 that number had declined 11 percent while nationwide growth increased 40 percent.
