Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and pharmaceutical drug hazards

Recent celebrity deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett have brought to the public's awareness the methods of Western medical treatment that these stars were receiving. Fawcett, after being diagnosed with anal cancer, received chemotherapy. Jackson, a celebrity with a variety of rumored health problems, was taking several prescription medications including painkillers and medications typically prescribed for anxiety and depression. Jackson had developed a friendship with alternative medicine and spirituality guru Deepak Chopra, M.D., who has now shared public comments about his unsuccessful efforts to encourage Jackson to confront his prescription drug addictions.

In the case of Fawcett, she had been receiving chemotherapy treatment in America and had traveled to Germany to receive alternative therapies such as natural supplements and herbal immune-boosting therapy, according to an article at WebMD.

The German physician reported that Fawcett had done well with care there, having shown a decrease in tumor size and improved quality of life over two and a half years. However, while in the USA she could not receive the treatments offered at the German clinic, and was only receiving treatment from the American doctors at the time of her death. Fawcett's American doctor acknowledged on the NBC Today Show that Fawcett had become weak, in part due to the effects of chemotherapy. Thus, the public doesn't know whether her deterioration was due more to the cancer progression or to the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is known to weaken the immune system and promote future cancers, so its use alongside immune boosting therapies may limit their effectiveness.

Michael Jackson, consuming multiple medications including ones with known cardiovascular side effects, had failed to address his deep emotional wounds and insecurities, and like the surgically altered face he presented, his medicines merely masked the troubled psyche of the man consuming them. Even with access to one of America's most knowledgeable and acclaimed holistic physicians, Michael Jackson failed to get the help that may have allowed him to heal his soul, instead opting to be treated by doctors who made a profit from enabling Michael's addiction. In the case of both celebrities, there was access to more natural, non-toxic treatments, yet each chose to allow themselves to be subjected to hazardous drugs that wreaked havoc upon their bodies.
