NORTH NORWICH -- Norwich Pharmaceuticals said today it has formed a strategic alliance with Emerson Resources to "provide a stronger set of total services to the industry" and build on an existing relationship between the two companies.
"We've grown together and we've been working together for years," Emerson President Adolfo Gomez said. "Ours has always been a relationship of synergy, providing our clients with added value through the efficiencies of collaboration."
The synergy of equipment and capabilities is expected to be seamless, Norwich Pharmaceuticals President Chris Calhoun said.
"It is an alliance of opportunity, not of necessity," he said. "When two strong companies come together under these circumstances, everybody wins."
Calhoun told the Press & Sun-Bulletin about a week ago the local plant would not close, but it's unclear what else the strategic relationship could mean for each company's employees. Company representatives could not be reached for additional comment.
Norwich Pharmaceuticals employed more than 400 people last summer. The company provides contract manufacturing and packaging services to the pharmaceutical industry.
Emerson, based in Norristown, Pa., provides pharmaceutical development services including formulation development, stability testing and more.
Emerson is expected to take the lead in the early stage development of customers' pharmaceuticals. Commercial batches will be produced exclusively at the Norwich facility.
