EU Conducts Antitrust Raids On Pharmaceutical Firms

The European Commission Tuesday said it has conducted surprise antitrust inspections of several pharmaceutical firms.

The commission, the European Union's executive arm, didn't name any of the companies it raided. The companies are suspected of forming an illegal cartel or abusing a dominant position in the market at the expense of competitors and consumers, the commission said.

Such inspections are among the first steps in a commission antitrust probe, which can often take years to complete.
