Teva Pharmaceutical receives European OK for Ratiopharm acquisition, expects to close deal

INDIANAPOLIS - Generic drugmaker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. said Tuesday it received European Commission approval to proceed with its acquisition of German drugmaker Ratiopharm and expects to close the transaction soon.

The Israeli company said in March it agreed to buy the company for $5 billion in a deal intended to boost sales in Europe.

U.S.-traded shares of Teva fell 9 cents to $50.13 in Tuesday afternoon trading.
