Janssen and Kohl's Launch Milestone Solar Energy Projects

Pharmaceutical firm Janssen, a Johnson & Johnson Company, launches the largest solar energy system in New Jersey today, and the Kohl's Department Stores chain has made good on its promise to host at least 100 solar installations, the companies said.

Leaders of Janssen, a division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., will flip the switch on a 4.1-megawatt solar photovoltaic array of 13,496 sun-tracking, ground-mounted panels today at a campus in Titusville. The complex houses facilities for several Johnson & Johnson companies.

The installation (pictured above) joins a 0.5-MW rooftop solar PV system at the campus. All told, the systems are expected to generate enough energy to supply more than 70 percent of the electricity used at the site. The amount would power about 600 homes annually.

With the latest Titusville array in place, Johnson & Johnson has completed or is planning solar power systems with an installed capacity totaling 13 megawatts at 20 sites around the world.

Kohl's announced last week that its 100th hosted solar array had gone live at a site that's also in New Jersey. The installation in Mays Landing fulfills Kohl's short-term solar power goal.
