It’s one of the last steps before the Australian-based company will be able to begin manufacturing, packaging and labelling its natural health products and supplements at the manufacturing facility located in the Northside Business Park.
An inspection has been scheduled over a number of days beginning on Nov. 29 in order for Health Canada to issue the company an establishment licence. This will allow Stirling Pharma to manufacture and test pharmaceutical drugs.
The plant is scheduled to feature acetaminophen products in the first production runs, with the company already having approximately 13 tonnes of active ingredient ready for production.
It will also manufacture neutraceuticals (a food or food product that provides health and medical benefits) and pharmaceuticals, which are over-the-counter drugs and prescribed medicines that are governed by Heath Canada and have a unique drug identification number.
In its current configuration the facility will have an annual capacity to manufacture and package more than 550 million tablets, five million bottles and blend up to 1.5 million kg of product.
WIth 4,273 square metres of space, it’s fitted with extensive laboratory, drug manufacturing and packaging facilities.
Features include a fully fitted out laboratory, water filtration systems, auto mixing units ranging to 3,000 kg capacity and two fully automated filling, labelling and packaging lines.
