To increase the sale of new drugs, many drug-making Companies are intentionally overstating the problem of female sexual dysfunction (FSD).
Ray Moynihan, an academic, said pharmaceutical Companies are giving much hype to the fact that ‘hypoactive sexual desire disorder’ among female is increasing and is quite widespread.
Mr. Moynihan, who is a broadcaster and lecturer at Newcastle University in Australia, also said that Companies even provide funds for those surveys that are designed to show that a lot of women are suffering from this problem.
A course for the U. S. doctors that was funded by Pfizer claimed that around 63% women were suffering from sexual dysfunction problem. The course even suggested treatment options like taking testosterone and Viagra.
On the other hand, many studies later found that Viagra was not useful for such a purpose.
Mr. Moynihan said, “The drug industry shows no signs of abandoning plans to meet the unmet need it has helped to manufacturer”.
Medical experts say that FSD is nothing but women’s discontent with their partners, which the pharmaceutical Companies are purely exaggerating.
