Pharmaceutical expert to speak at MSUM

Dr. Tomi Sawyer will deliver the Minnesota State University Moorhead Homecoming Distinguished Alumni Lecture at 4 p.m. Thursday in Science Lab 118 on campus.

He will present “Exploring the Mysteries of Life: Transformational Drug Discovery.”

Sawyer, a 1976 graduate of MSUM, is the chief scientific officer and senior vice president of drug discovery and innovating technologies for Aileron Therapeutics. His career has resulted in more than 70 patents and patent filings. He has advanced novel chemical and biological therapies for cancer in clinical use, most notably a promising new collaboration with Roche worth an estimated $1.1 billion.

While working for Upjohn, he also made major contributions to research in high blood pressure and the treatment of AIDS.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
