The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has received warnings from foreign regulators about “herbal slimming pills” containing undeclared sibutramine.
The pharmaceutical was formerly a prescription medication but its marketing authorisation was withdrawn in January this year by the European Medicines Agency.
The MHRA said these pills were often presented as “100 per cent natural” and promoting rapid weight loss, when in fact they present a serious risk to health.
