EU ready to assist with promotion of Belarusian pharmaceuticals to its market

The EU is ready to assist with the promotion of Belarusian pharmaceutical products to its market, the European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, John Dalli, told reporters in Minsk.

The European Commissioner noted that the EU would like to learn more about the production processes and existing standards in pharmaceuticals in Belarus. “We want to study them making allowances for the systems operating in Europe in order to ensure the safety of such products,” he said. The Commissioner said that the manufacture of pharmaceutical products in European countries has their own characteristics depending on their type and the market to which they are delivered.

Speaking about the cooperation with Belarus in this area, Mr John Dalli said that the EU wishes to facilitate the procedures of certification and verification by European inspections by means of applying existing practices and procedures. “We will look for the best approaches to implement this task,” he stressed.

Cross-border partnership including projects to develop collaboration between clinics and hospitals in Belarus and the EU is a promising area of cooperation too, Mr John Dalli said. Special role, according to the European Commissioner, may be assigned to video consultations between specialists of medical institutions. This is one of the priorities of European policy. “We support the e-system of exchange of knowledge and experience in healthcare,” he stressed. He also informed that now the EU is considering a directive which will facilitate the movement of patients across borders. In this issue the European Union also shows interest in cooperation.
