Ohio to receive $1.3M in pharmaceutical settlement

Ohio will receive $1.3 million from a $34 million settlement with maker of an epilepsy drug that was accused of marketing the medication to treat migraine headaches in violation of U.S. drug laws.Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the amount of Ohio's share on Wednesday. He says it's the latest example of the state's ongoing effort to make sure Medicaid dollars are used properly.Belgian manufacturer UCB pleaded guilty in Washington last week to a misdemeanor tied to the misbranding of its epilepsy treatment Keppra. The company agreed to settle related lawsuits.As part of the civil settlement, nearly $10 million will go to Medicaid programs in Ohio and other states.
