Ark. AG announces settlement with pharmaceutical

Attorney General Dustin ,has announced that a pharmaceutical company has agreed to settle allegations that it filed false claims to Arkansas' Medicaid program.

McDaniel says Texas-based Healthpoint Ltd. Agreed to pay just more than $533,000 to the Arkansas Medicaid program. McDaniel says the settlement is part of an agreement between Healthpoint and several other states and the federal government.

The states and federal government had alleged Healthpoint filed for Medicaid reimbursement for the drug Xenaderm. The governments say the federal Food and Drug Administration determined in the 1970s that the drug was "less than effective" and the Medicaid does not reimburse for such drugs.

Xenaderm is a topical ointment used to treat bed sores and pressure sores.
