Oral Zoloft Offers Alternative for Patients

The antidepressant Zoloft (sertraline) by Pfizer Inc. is now available in a liquid formulation, the company announced in a news release.

The new oral concentrate enhances the dosing flexibility of Zoloft, helping to meet the needs of certain groups of patients and their health care practitioners. The new formulation carries the same indications as Zoloft tablets, including major depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder in adult and pediatric patients and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Zoloft Oral Concentrate is measured using a dropper calibrated to deliver doses of 25 mg and 50 mg. Immediately before administration, patients must dilute the prescribed amount of the medication with water, lemon-lime soda, ginger ale, lemonade or orange juice. It should not be diluted with any other food or beverage and should not be diluted in advance.

The oral solution is priced comparably with Zoloft tablets.
