The Quality Chemicals plant in Kampala which is producing Anti retroviral drugs and anti malarial has asked the government to give the factory a 10 year tax holiday in order to enable it remain competitive in business.
The Managing Director of the firm, Emmanuel Katongole says they have invested a lot of funds in setting up the Luzira based factory and need a tax holiday in order to keep afloat.
He also says the government must pay for the amount of ARVs and anti malaria drugs it committed to purchase from the factory in time.
Katongole says they have commenced full scale production of ARVS and anti malaria drugs, with a capacity to produce up to 2 million tablets every day.
He says the factory is counting on the support of the government through a tax holiday, purchasing the drugs produced and helping to convince other countries to purchase ARVs and anti malaria drugs from the Uganda factory.
Katongole says the factory also needs the government to help get its drugs certified by the World Health Organization so they can be exported to any part of the world.
