QAU to establish pharmaceutical institute

The 154th meeting of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Syndicate was held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Masoom Yasinzai.

It was the 3rd meeting of newly formed Syndicate after the nomination of members by President Asif Ali Zardari, chancellor of the university.

The meeting discussed 39 agenda items in detail and took important policy decisions including university expansion plans and to start new academic disciplines. The Syndicate has unanimously approved establishment of Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at QAU. In this respect a philanthropist Haseeb Saulat offered to fully sponsor the construction of Institute of Pharmacy in the memory of his late father Saulat. Hence the name of institute shall be “Saulat Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences”. Haseeb also agreed to equip the institute with the latest instruments and hand over it to the university. The house highly appreciated the gesture of Haseeb Saulat. The recommendations made by Selection Board and Academic Council were also discussed and approved by Syndicate.

All members of syndicate unanimously supported the new developments focusing on academic excellence. Syndicate appraised the efforts of QAU Vice Chancellor and his team for the successful launch of new schools including the School of Economics, School of Management Sciences and the School of Politics and international Relations.

The vice chancellor said QAU was dedicated to high quality higher education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He said that the university would steadily expand its academic programs through bringing in additional specialized subjects and introducing new disciplines without making any kind of compromise over quality.
